Sandra Dianne Husbands Chandler, age 72, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after an extended battle with declining health. Born August 22, 1953 to Lloyd D. and Christine G. Husbands, she grew up in Sandy Springs, and thereafter attended the University of Georgia where she obtained a degree in early childhood education. She had a gift for teaching and spent her entire career in elementary education, initially focusing on kindergarten at Oakwood Elementary School, where she excelled at instilling a love of learning in her students. After earning her Masters of Education and Sixth Year Certificate, Dianne was an Instructional Coordinator with the Hall County School System, and then served as principal of Oakwood Elementary School for several years until her retirement. She cherished this opportunity to guide the school at which she began her career and her growth as an educator. In retirement she worked part-time for several years supervising student teachers, where she relished the opportunity to work with and pass on knowledge and skills to the next generation of teachers. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Oakwood. While she was involved with several groups and committees, nothing gave her more satisfaction than being in the nursery, caring for the children of the Church. In her spare time, traveling to the beach as well as going on cruises with friends and family were great fun for her. Dianne will be remembered by all as generous, compassionate, and kind. The organizations with which she was associated well know her heart for philanthropy, and her love for being with her friends. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, Wednesday Study Club, and the Wisdom Circle. She was predeceased by her father and mother as well as her brother Kirby.
She is survived by her son Wade (Mary Ann), her grandchildren, Madalyn, Anna Blake, and Beauregard, as well as her sister-in-law, Ida Husbands.
The family will receive friends on Saturday January 24, 2026 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville. A memorial service will immediately follow in the chapel.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Drive, Gainesville, Georgia 30504 is in charge of the arrangements.
