Shirley Jean Strickland

Shirley Jean Strickland, age 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, with her son at her bedside. After several years of declining health, she courageously faced Alzheimer’s disease with grace and quiet strength.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia, Shirley spent many cherished years in Chicopee Village and was raised in the New Holland community. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Nora Maddox and was also preceded in death by her brother, Roy Maddox.

Shirley will be remembered for her spunk and fiery spirit. She found joy in life’s simple moments and her home in the Village. She loved being a part of the local grapevine and keeping up with the daily events happening in Gainesville with her friends.

She is survived by her son, Jeff (Linda) Strickland; her granddaughter, Jennifer (Michael) LaRose; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Logan LaRose. She is also survived by her sister, Gwen Cade, and her nephew, Tracy Gooch.

Shirley’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and family. She will be missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be held at New Holland Cemetery on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Reverend Donnie Jarrard will officiate the service. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
