Sybil Amanda Denard Walton

“Until we meet again; may God hold you safely in the palm of His hand.”

Sybil Denard Walton, age 94 years, 8 months, and 1 day, of Hoschton, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2023.  Mrs. Walton was born September 2, 1928 in Washington, Georgia to Odian Adolph Denard, Sr. and Amanda Mary “Mamie” Matthews of Tignal, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Milton Walton and two grandsons Nicholas Ammons and Shane Smith.

Sybil and her husband grew up together and were married for almost 64 years.  They eventually made their home in Stone Mountain, Georgia where they raised their three daughters, Beverly Walton Kingsley of Longmont, CO, Suzanne Walton Ammons (Bryan) of Flowery Branch, GA and Janet Walton Smith (Leonard) of Braselton, GA.  The family attended United Methodist Church of Tucker, GA.  She was a member of the Smoke Rise Garden Club, where she enjoyed Oshibana, the art of pressed flowers, which she still did into her later years.  She enjoyed cooking and it was very much her love language.  After retiring from Rich’s Department Store in 1984 she and her husband moved to Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA. There she played bridge monthly with her friends and loved playing with her grandchildren swimming and boating on the lake.  In 2005 she and her husband moved to Hoschton, GA.  She continued to play bridge with her Gainesville friends until her husband fell ill and she lovingly tended to him till his passing in 2010. She was a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren, Talia Smith Hamill (Ryan) of Braselton, GA, Joel Ammons (Jena) of Flowery Branch, GA, Joshua Kingsley (Sara) of Boulder, CO, and Maxwell Kingsley of Boulder, CO.  Great Grandmother of eight, Shannon Kline, Noah Kline, Toby Hamill, Abbey Ammons, Jaxon Young, Jesse Kline, Silas Ammons, and Veda Ammons. She is survived by three of her remaining siblings, Barbara Kessler, of Ormond Beach, FL, Katrina Weber of Washington, GA, and Darden Denard of Tignal, GA.

 A family graveside service is to be held at Pope’s Chapel UMC Cemetery in Tignal, GA on Friday, May 12th at 11:00 am.
