Terry Wayne Rushing

Terry Wayne Rushing, age 84, of Oakwood, GA passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born December 4, 1941, to the late Henry & Maude (Morris) Rushing in Birmingham, Alabama. Terry left Alabama at the age of 26 and moved to Michigan to be close to his sister Helen.  This move later brought him to meet his bride-to-be, Sue. Terry began his career at General Motors, but when the cold winters became too bitter, he moved his family to Georgia. He became a cocktail magician, a role he took immense pride in while creating memorable experiences for his loyal guests and family.  He would later move into security management, where his smile and contagious belly laugh formed beautiful relationships with his co-workers.  Terry loved working with his hands; he found joy in cooking, tackling projects around the house, and rest assured, every spring we would find him starting his annual tomato plants from seed and occasionally catching him whispering sweet nothings to the buds as they popped up from the warm soil.  Above all, he was a devoted Christian, husband, and father, all of which guided every aspect of his life. 

Terry Rushing was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Rushing, and his sister, Helen McCarthy.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sue Rushing; his children, Terry Rushing Jr. and daughter-in-law, Patsy Rushing; Leighann Bendall; Kelly Hanson; Stacie Rushing-Witzel, and son-in-law, Ryan Witzel; his grandchildren, Lori DeJarnett and spouse Sam DeJarnett; Lisa Rushing; Trey McIntosh; Tyler Witzel; Madison Hanson; McKenna Bendall; Jackson Bendall; Parker Witzel; Tucker Witzel; Ella Bendall; and Linen Rushing; and his great-grandchildren, Marcus DeJarnett; S.J. DeJarnett; and Kaitlyn DeJarnett.

The family would like to recognize the Liberty Bible Church congregation and the Hospice team of Northeast Georgia. The support and love from all were immensely helpful to the family during this difficult time. 

Terry’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Liberty Bible Church; 4735 Stephens Rd, Gainesville, GA 30504. Family and friends are invited to join us in honoring his life, legacy, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
