It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ernest Wayne Abernathy of Flowery Branch. Wayne was 84 when he passed on 1/10/26.
Wayne was a son, a brother, a husband, an uncle, and a best friend, but most importantly he was a shining light for our family. He was full of kindness, always saw the best in others and loved us all unconditionally. His life was well-lived
A friend to everybody and devoted to his wife and family, Wayne was a treasure to the whole extended family. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wayne was everyone’s favorite uncle, magical to the kids. and a great role model for all. He loved woodworking – making beautiful furniture and refinishing old furniture, traveling, and was a huge fan of the UGA Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons Football teams. He was also a musician including piano, guitar, and ukelele.
Wayne served in the Army 404th Armored Division in Germany in the late 1960’s. After his military service, he started a career with General Motors. He mostly worked in Human resources for UAW and General Motors, where his passion for computers led to starting a school for UAW members in connection with Gwinnett County College.
