Wayne Merritt Obituary

Mr. Wayne Roy Merritt, age 72, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026 in Lawrenceville, GA. He was born to the late Floyce and Roy Merritt on August 7, 1953 in Gainesville, GA. He was a valued employee of Gainesville Mechanical for 17 years, taking great pride in his work.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Reverend Bill Compton will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

Mr. Merritt is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Shelba Ivey Merritt of Gainesville, GA; daughters, Emily (Chase) Roper of Gainesville, GA,  Alexis Phillips of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren Jaxon Roper, Barrett Roper, Ella Roper, Gray Phillips; brother, Terry Merritt; sister-in-law, BJ (Harold) Dye, sister-in-law, Jan (Charlie) Underwood, and a number of aunts and cousins.

For 47 years, he shared a strong and devoted marriage with his wife, building a life rooted in love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Together they raised two daughters, who were the pride of his life, and later welcomed four grandchildren who brought him endless joy.

He was a man whose presence filled every room. Known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and generous spirit, he was someone others could always count on. No project was ever too big, no challenge too daunting. Whether helping a neighbor, lending a hand to a friend, or supporting his family, he gave freely of his time, talents, and heart.

He never met a stranger. His warm smile, easy conversation, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome. He had a gift for connecting with people and leaving them better than he found them.

He found happiness in the simple joys of life—camping under the stars, hiking scenic trails, sharing picnics with loved ones, and tending to his garden. He loved the outdoors and appreciated the beauty of nature, but nothing brought him greater pride than his family.

As a grandfather, he was his grandchildren's biggest cheerleader. Whether attending games, performances, school events, or simply encouraging them through life's milestones, he celebrated their achievements and supported them with boundless love and enthusiasm.

His legacy lives on in the values he demonstrated every day: hard work, kindness, generosity, dependability, and unconditional love for family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
