Wayne Herbert Powell

Mr. Wayne Herbert Powell, age 77 of Flowery Branch, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Wayne was born January 21, 1948, to the late Lyle Powell and Murrye Powell in Fort Meade, Florida, where he grew up the youngest of four boys. He had a lifelong love for the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and enjoying the company of animals of all kinds, earning him the nickname ‘the animal whisperer.’  He shared an especially close bond with his cherished cocker spaniel, Allie.  Wayne carried with him a strong work ethic and a love of life that shaped everything he did.

He met the love of his life, Donna, in Lakeland in 1971, and they shared 54 years of marriage. Wayne and Donna spent most of their lives in Lakeland, Florida, where together they raised their two daughters, Shannon and Jennifer.  In 2016, they moved to Flowery Branch, Georgia, where they enjoyed more time with family, lake living, and the change of seasons. Wayne’s devotion to his family was unwavering.   He was also passionate about Buccaneer football, Southern cooking, working in his yard, music from the 1960s, time on the water fishing with his buddies, and any time spent with his family.

Wayne dedicated the first 30 years of his career to working for Alcoa and later worked several years for PSI, before retiring in 2009. He approached his work with diligence and integrity, earning the respect of his colleagues.

In addition to his wife, Donna, Wayne is survived by two daughters, Shannon Powell Valentine (Kurt) and Jennifer Powell Piltawer (Nik); five grandchildren, Lauren Valentine, Kurt Valentine, Charlotte Piltawer, Adrian Piltawer, and Juliette Piltawer; as well as many loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss his generous spirit and joyful heart.

Wayne’s life was a reflection of kindness, humor, and deep love for his family, and his memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew him.
