William L. “Dub” Head, age 86, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 28, 2025 at Gainesville First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
“Dub” was born on September 10, 1939, in Hall County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Amos Newton Head and Clara Dell (Brown) Head. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Beatrice, Frances, Claude, Marion, Grady and Harold.
“Dub” attended Tadmore, Airline and East Hall High School, where he was a member of the first graduating class of 1958. He was also a long time member of Harmony Hall Baptist Church and later became a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church where he was involved in Gadabouts and Comet Sunday School Classes.
He worked at the Gainesville Post Office for Twenty plus years as a rural route supervisor. He was known for his love of the beach, fishing in the mountains and he was also an avid gardener. He loved coaching his daughters and grandchildren in basketball.
“Dub” was first married to his beloved wife, Pat, who preceded him in death. He later found love again and shared 11 happy years with his wife Joanne.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children, Audrey Allison, April Kemp (Jay); step-daughters, Ginny Collins (Rich) and Ashley Reed (Byron); grandchildren, Will Allison, Erin Askounis (Matt), McKay Kemp, McKinley Kemp; step-grandchildren, Austin Skipper (Janna), Charlsie Reed; great-grandchildren, Benny Askounis; step-great-grandchildren, Hyde Skipper and Addison Skipper.
