Mrs. Bessie Lanelle Cronic, 80

Bessie Lanelle "Nell" Cronic, 80, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022. She was born Oct. 16, 1941, to the late Bernice Puckett Cleghorn and Carl Cleghorn. She is survived by her sister and partner in crime Janice Harrison; her devoted daughter Kathy Darlene Roberts Kelley; grandchildren Kristina Lanelle Kelley Gilleland (Brad) and Amy Caroline Kelley Leonard (Clark); and great-grandchildren Asher Gilleland, Louella Leonard and Everett Leonard, as well as beloved nieces Leigh Ann Harrison and Debbie Alexander, and nephew Jeff Harrison. She was better known as "Nanny Nell" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Cronic; beloved son-in-law Ron Kelley; and sons Ronnie Roberts and Donnie Roberts. As a military wife, she traveled the world while raising her children, then delighted in spending afternoons with her grandchildren as they visited after school. Nanny began her working career at Wofford Leather Company making saddles, and later worked at SKF for 30 years, where she retired.

Nanny was an avid gardener and achieved the highly esteemed status of a Master Gardener through the Georgia Master Gardener Association. She was often found lovingly tending her beautiful yard, making sure the visiting birds were well fed and watered. She spent Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR – most recently cheering for hometown favorite Chase Elliott. She had the most contagious laugh and a great sense of humor until the end.

Memorial Park Funeral Home is handling arrangements. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24th at Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, however, in lieu of sending them, we know she would love for you to plant some in her memory.
